Overview

One of South America's major economies, Argentina is preparing to launch a new citizenship-by-investment program, based on legislation enacted in 2025 and investment conditions announced in October 2026.

The program allows foreign investors to apply for citizenship through a non-refundable contribution to the Argentine National Treasury or by investing in government bonds to be issued specifically for the program.

Argentine citizenship stands out for its broad international travel access, regional mobility advantages across South American countries, and the possibility of dual citizenship.

Moreover, the program covers not only the investor but also their spouse and children who meet the eligibility requirements.

Benefits of Argentine Citizenship

The Argentine passport offers visa-free, visa-on-arrival, or similarly facilitated entry to around 170 destinations. It provides visa-free access for short stays in key destinations such as the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

Argentina allows dual and multiple citizenship. Investors can apply for Argentine citizenship while keeping their existing citizenships.

Argentine citizenship makes it easier to access residence and work opportunities under agreements in force across the MERCOSUR region. It offers regional mobility advantages with countries such as Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

The main applicant's spouse and children can apply for Argentine citizenship within the framework of the specified additional contribution amounts and application requirements.

Unlike the traditional naturalization process, the new citizenship-by-investment program provides for applications to be made without the requirement of two years of residence in the country.

Once the application is approved, investors obtain Argentine citizenship rather than a temporary residence permit. This status is subject to the citizenship legislation in force.
